Wittig-Horner反应的机理

反应机理类似于Wittig反应的机理。通过空间方法控制设定立体化学，其中当较小的醛氢使庞大的膦酰基部分黯然失色时，碳负离子的碳的反平面方法是有利的。这将酯基syn置于醛R基团，但初始烯烃在旋转后呈现这些基团的 E-取向以形成氧杂磷杂环戊烷。由于锂抗衡离子不干扰oxaphosphetane形成，因此可以使用BuLi，但NaH和NaOMe也是形成内鎓盐的合适碱。通过简单地用水洗涤，可以容易地将所得磷酸盐副产物与所需产物分离。
